Gentle Flow & Rest Yoga (Restorative)

Gentle Flow & Rest Yoga is a gentle therapeutic yoga class designed by Karen Claffey
for her patients and students who regardless of age - ranging from 20’s to 80’s - need a
yoga practice for any level of mobility and ability.

In the class you will experience the healing benefits of gentle stretches, guided meditation and relaxation, pranayama (yoga breathing), and restorative postures. The use of bolsters, blankets and props allow for ultimate comfort which assist in deep rest and relaxation.

Meditation, Pranayama and Restorative yoga are scientifically proven to cultivate emotional calm, and provide profound healing benefits to the nervous system for a wide range of health conditions.

For new beginners and all levels. This class is ideal for those seeking relaxation and stress‐management, for people with limited mobility, and/or for people in recovery.

Note: not recommended for pregnancy because many postures are done in the supine position (laying on the back) which may be contraindicated for pregnancy.

Yin Yoga

For beginners and all levels. Yin yoga is a meditative slow-paced style of yoga where poses are held for longer periods of time, ranging from 1 to 5 minutes, or depending on the pose, that cultivates inner awareness. This passive stretching is said to moderately stress connective tissues of the body with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility.

Benefits of a regular Yoga practice

Hatha

  • Strengthens and tones the body

  • Improves flexibility and circulation

  • Increases stamina

  • Calms the mind down by inviting us to synchronise movement with breath

  • Removes tension and obstacles in the body to allow breath and prana to flow

Gentle Stretching & Yin Yoga

Gentle stretching has been scientifically studied and proven effective in reducing anxiety, depression, metabolic syndrome, chronic pain, and a variety of other dis-eases.

  • Stimulates the meridians (energy channels) bringing balance to the organs in the body

  • Improves flexibility and joint mobility

  • Calms and balances the mind and body

  • Reduces stress and anxiety

  • Works deeply on the connective tissues

  • Can prepare the practitioner for meditation practice

Restorative Yoga

Restorative yoga taps into the parasympathetic nervous system; the branch of the NS responsible for “rest and digest”, and turns off the sympathetic NS “fight or flight” branch which is the state most of us in this high-speed, super-stimulated, tech-distracted,
stressed-out world are living in!  Tapping into the parasympathetic nervous system is ideal because this is when our body is in healing mode; allowing our body to rest, digest and relax.

Benefits include:

  • Improved memory and mental clarity

  • Enhanced mood states

  • Superior sleep quality

  • Boosting of the immune system with improved capacity for healing and homeostasis

  • Increased flexibility due to release of muscle tension.

  • Gentle yoga practices also foster qualities of compassion and acceptance toward self and others.

"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence, therefore, is not an act but a habit."  ~ Aristotle
